About me

Welcome to Palomissimo Equine Bodywork!

My name is Gail Krieg and I offer professional equine bodywork to clients in and around the Savannah, GA area. Having worked with horses since I was 7 years old, I always knew that I wanted to settle into an equine career of my own. After being in small animal veterinary medicine for the better part of a decade, I was ready to make that transition. With a personal interest in medicine and holistic wellness, I knew that I wanted to get into something that would ultimately improve the lives of our equine partners. After looking further into what exactly that would look like I am proud to say that I’ve settled on bodywork. I love being able to use a variety of modalities and practices to not only maximize the performance of our horses, but also their quality of life.

In 2023 I attended a very in depth and extensive program that certified me as an equine bodyworker. This program not only included both in person and distance learning, but also required case studies which took up the better part of a year. They teach a science based massage routine that combines a variety of techniques and specialties to maximize the efficiency of each session.

In November 2024 I attended a continued education course to also add myofascial release to my toolbox. This certification also includes an extensive externship which is currently in progress.

I am so excited to meet you, your horse, and to become part of your horse’s wellness team. It’s been amazing watching what this work can offer each and every horse and I am so excited to get started with yours!

Follow-Up Equine Bodywork Session

For all of your horse’s following sessions we will discuss any changes since the last visit and your horse will get a full bodywork session catered to their specific needs. This typically lasts about 1-1.5hrs.

Frequently asked questions

  • The term “bodywork” is used to describe a variety of modalities that use touching and manipulation of a human or animal’s body. I practice sports massage and myofascial release which I use together to create a personalized session for each horse.

  • Multiple studies have been done to prove that bodywork on our equine best friends has large number of benefits. I recommend it to any horse as long as there are no medical contraindications.

  • Myofascial release is a modality of bodywork where the practitioner releases tightness and adhesions in the connective tissues (fascia) that surround and connect muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs, and more. When this tissue is “bunched up” it can cause a number of different issues including chronic pain, limit blood flow/nerve function, and restrict movement.

  • Since it’s your horse’s initial session I will send you a history form to fill out prior to the visit. This just asks about you and your horse’s history as well as some general introductory questions. When I arrive I will do my observations and perform the full session. Once completed, I offer my recommendations on session frequency, follow up exercises, etc. Post session you will receive the full session notes via email. This whole visit typically lasts 1.5-2hrs long although you are not required to be present for the whole session, just at the beginning for us to meet!

  • For cancelling/rescheduling, at least 24hrs notice is required unless prior arrangements have been made. I do not charge a fee for this unless it’s within 24hrs of the originally scheduled session. For changes made within that time frame, I charge a $25 cancelation fee which will be billed to you or added to your next invoice.

  • If it’s your horse’s initial session make sure that the history form has been completed and sent to me. On the day of your horse’s session, your horse need to be in and easily accessible. They need to be relatively clean and completely dry. Occasionally, a light hand walk post session is encouraged but do not plan on riding your horse or having them do any serious exercise for 24 hours after I have worked on them. Any exercise, including riding, is fine to do before I get there as long as they are completely cool and dry by the time I am starting our session.

  • This really depends on the horse specifically, what your goals for them are, and frequency of sessions. Your horse should have some immediate relief following each session but long term benefits could take several sessions.

  • No! Although chiropractic services are a type of bodywork, I am not qualified to perform this. Chiropractors perform spinal manipulation where as I perform variations of soft tissue manipulation. Chiropractic work and massage go hand in hand though so I’m always happy to recommend a practitioner!
